The Stay in School Program (SIS) supports low income/at risk children and youth who are faced with barriers keeping them from staying in school. For example: clothing/lack of; hunger/nutritional snacks; help with studies/tutoring. And we offer educational and life skills workshops to empower youth to engage in activities that will enhance their ability to make a better life for themselves. Social and cultural activities are also provided to uplift and surround youth with positive aspirations. We will be launching the Lend A Hand Store soon which is designed to have many items available for students including socks, underwear, toiletries, uniforms, shoes, and other needed items. Your support can also help to make sure items are available for those who are in dire need. Just imagine a child going to school without decent pair of shoes or clothing, tummy hurting from hunger, depressing living situations making it impossible to concentrate...well we know we cannot save the world, but even a little help goes a long way.
Our SIS program began in 2011 engaging 10 students who graduated out of the program, high school and are going to college. We will continue to support as many students as we can beyond giving out backpacks and supplies. Lend A Hand started its mission to enhance the quality of life of less fortunate children and youth in 1997. Started its annual back to school giveaway in 2001 with the giving of 200 backpacks and supplies at a homeless shelter and we are proud to say that to date, we have provided over 53,000 backpacks with supplies. We are a small group of individuals dedicated to make a positive change in the life of others. Every year we find ourselves facing many challenges as it relates to funding and most needing operating cost. The programs cannot run without operating and our programs are very valuable to all.
